Andrea Kropáčová is a network administrator, manager of network services and occasional programmer. She assembled the first CSIRT team in the Czech Republic officially recognised by the worldwide security community. Andrea also initiated the establishment of FLAB, Forensic Laboratory, in CESNET which today represents one of the security expert units in CESNET.

How do you feel in an environment that is usually dominated by male professionals?
Very good. The environment is working, creative and dynamic. My “environment” means a great team. But one must be able to accept that some bruise sometimes appears ;-).
Do you feel women have the same opportunities to succeed in cyber security industry?
Yes.
What are the largest day-to-day challenges a women faces in your profession (how to keep on track with latest developments)?
Women in this profession face the same challenges as men – keep up-to-date, informed, aware of current threads, trends, events, etc.
What advice would you give to young women considering career in cybersecurity?
Do not hesitate. Cybersecurity is demanding area, but if you are not afraid of challenges and you are close to never-ending lifelong learning, exploring, searching for answers and solutions, it’s the right discipline for you. And there are many areas you can specialize in – security incident resolution, security tool development, applications and services, fighting hackers ;-), user protection, IT and legislation …
